Hi All,

Apologies for anyone double messaged 'cause of the RCTNP message. But,
letting the crew know I finally uploaded a few pics of the work on "4 Stars"
by Jane Zimmerman. Took these a while ago, and finally downloaded the
camera memory. They're in my "Ellice's Stuff" photo album on RCTNP. It's
just slow going....

Ellice - who should go back downstairs and do some stitching.....

Very beautiful. I'm not sure I'd have the
patience.

Thanks so much. I wasn't so sure about myself, either. But... I'm finding
it sort of a meditation exercise. I cannot work on this doing much else,
and am starting to get slightly worried about having enough of the Au Ver a
Soie. At least I don't think the project is jinxed. I've only wasted about
1 full yard of silk - we were given a hank of yard long pieces. I had to
toss out about a yard, maybe less - mostly stuff that had been stitched, and
then some left parked after the class, and I thought the parked stuff had
gone a bit too fuzzy to do the effort justice. Honestly, it is a patience
exercise, but once you know the rhythm for whichever section, and use a
magnifier - it's not too bad. I'm finding that the magnifier is a big
difference - without it, too hard to find the holes which are behind some
already laid thread, and trying not to pick apart the already laid pieces.
I think the hardest part is the section that is the wavy gold ribbon, laid
over some 32 tapestry braid. The ribbon is couched with japan gold, and
it's very fiddley to have it all line-up. Also, in the instructions, she
has us doing the outlining of each quadrant as you finish it. Big mistake -
in doing the next section I'm having to go under the laid #8 braid, and
that's ucky. If that has to be redone, not such a big deal. I'll do the
rest of the borders at the very end - just before doing the beading - or
maybe after. All the kind of open intersections get gold delica beads put
into them. Anyhow - at this point I've sent in the exhibit entry form, so
that means getting this to the framer by early August so I can take it with
on the 26th.....

It's a busy stitching summer for me. I'm going to have to be
disciplined....

Ellice
