Need help figuring this knot out.

I recieved a scan of a knot that someone called a monkey knot I can't figure
out how to put it togeather and it is bothering me. I tried the sheepshank
shortening in the graoumont and hensel book but it does not give me the
ridges like the one on the scan. Any help would be appreciated.

So you're saying you can't reproduce this knot? It looks like it'd make a dandy
stopper! I may not "get it", but are you sure it's a real knot? If you don't
make me show you the ends, I can tighten the lay on a piece of 3-strand & get it
to look a whole lot like your pic.

So I'd have to guess a long splice with extra twists to get it to kink as it was
laid in... Or not a knot.
