Default Been A Loooong Time!

Wow, it's a miracle! I can finally get back on newsgroups again.

Some of you might remember me (Hi Becki!!!!), I'll probably be new to
lots of you.

I'm Karen, a glass beadmaker (on semi-hiatus), jewelry maker, recovering
fiberholic, and relapsing member of the SCA (Society for Creative
Anachronism, a medieval reenactment group). Thanks to an SCA puzzle, I
made an attempt to sign onto newsgroups again tonight. For reasons
unknown to me, I haven't been able to achieve that feat in ages. (More
than 2 years, and I've tried randomly.) Before I lose it again, I
thought I'd pop in and say hi.

Hi!

I ended up in the hospital last spring with a life-threatening moment
(bilateral pulmonary emboli, a/k/a bigass blood clots in my lungs). I
was already only partially torching anyway, but my docs told me to avoid
the flame for 6 months. So I did, and got involved in other things in
the meantime (that's where the SCA comes in). Now I'm finally able to
make beads again, but I have all these other (wonderful) distractions,
including a terrific DH, a pair of teenagers (almost-19 and 15), and a
variety of SCA-related interests like calligraphy, illumination, hand
spinning, costuming, and medieval music (I play guitar and recorder).
Now I'm researching medieval and renaissance-style beads and figuring
out how to make modern copies. Way fun!

That's probably enough from me for now. I'll try to remember that this
actually works and peek in again.

Hello Karen! Wow, really nice to see you post, and hope your health problems
are now behind you. I cannot believe your kids are that old! I hope you can
make it back to the group again.

Side note to people who are newer to the group: This is one very talented,
creative lady; her beads are beautiful.

Hey Karen - nice to see you here again! I'm sorry you had to go so long
without torching - yuck! Welcome back.

HI babygirl!!! Glad to hear your health is better after the
hospitalization and the 6-month hiatus. WOW the kids have gotten
old. LOL (like we haven't).

So very good to hear from you.

Not only does Karen make beautiful beads, she also puts together great
combinations of her lampwork beads and other beads. Getting beads from her
is always so great because with her groupings are completely ready to bloom
into jewelry, while still leaving lots of room for your own in-put.

Karen, I'm glad you're doing well again, and hope we'll see more of you.
