Default Fabric calculators?

I know that out there in cyberland there are websites that can help
calculate yardage for quilts, but can anyone here do better maths than me?!

My friend Debbie (yes, the one who fell off the ladder but is now doing
really well, she gave the crutches back to the hospital a few weeks ago
and is managing stairs quite nicely now - still got a long way to go
tho...) wants to make a quilt for her son Tom for Christmas - she's been
collecting penguin fabric for ages and wants to show off the different
penguins to their best advantage...

We thought about Attic Windows, but decided against it because of the
set-in seam, so instead have plumped for Snowballs (quick and easy - she
doesn't sew!), and are going to do 6" finished squares of the different
penguin fabrics. If we make 48 blocks, thats 6 blocks from each of 8
different fabrics (see I knew I could count really!)

The problem lies in the smaller squares which get stitched onto the
corners to form the snowball - we need to cut 2.5" squares, 4 for each
block, so thats 192 small squares, and we're either using plain white
cotton or a very pale blue... BUT how much fabric do we need to buy to
be able to cut 192 2.5" squares from it?

Suzie, you don't have to use a set in seam for attic windows. Just use a
half square triangle at the corner. MUCH easier!

You could use hsts for the corner and avoid the set in seam

Assuming the fabric is 40 inches wide or so, you will get 16 squares
out of each strip. 192 squares will take 12 strips or 30 inches. I
would get at least one more strip width to account for possible errors
(not that I would ever cut something incorrectly!)
If that corner fabric will be used for binding or borders, buy
accordingly.
