Default OT - Do you love your stash the way it is?

Well, if you are like me you do. You love your stash the way it is.
Maybe it could be neater, or larger.. but at least you can find stuff.
Until, that is, I went away to Glasgow and the chap you reads the
gas meter turned up when I was away. Mat didn't realize the gas meter
was in the closet in the office/sewing room and once he did.... he
absolutely took that closet apart looking for it.
Well I've spent the few spare hours I have in Dundee on the weekends
when I'm not at Tesco tidying it up. I can find things now. We're
not buried in fake fur anymore (the famous wooden cupboard holds the
quilting stash, and the closet holds fake fur, and fabric for clothing
construction, etc). Mind, not everything that came out will go back
in. I'm sure Murphy's law covers this in some way. Now I *have* to
make some more jeans/flannel/fleece throws for folks' couches or we
won't be able to walk down the hall!
Anyway, let this be a warning to others: make sure there is no
reason for anyone to mess up your stash or you will live to rue the
day! (I'm having a gin and tonic in my tidy sewing room just
now)......

That was crummy--the meter-man messing up your stash, I mean, and not
tidying up afterwards. Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for him, and lavish
amounts of gin and tonic for you for not losing your temper. Talk about
making lemons out of lemonade!!! I'd have been looking for him with a
shotgun in my hands, muttering all the bad words I learned from two
mechanics, a sailor and a farmer.

Seriously, I straightened out my stash last year, and it's now much easier
to find things. I, too, put all the non-quilty things in a separate space
so they wouldn't confuse me. I hate grabbing a lovely fabric, thinking to
use it in a quilt, and then finding out it's poly-cotton or rayon or some
other darned thing.

And last week when I cleaned out my shed, I found another big tote full of
old jeans. I thought I had used them all up on raggedy throws. Looks like
I need to make one more...

I find it highly ironic that Jo GIBSON is having a GIN and tonic:

Gibson

a.. 2 1/2 oz. Gin
b.. Several dashes dry Vermouth
c.. Cocktail onions
d.. Ice
Pour gin and dry vermouth into a mixing glass with ice cubes. Stir briskly
and strain into a chilled Cocktail glass. Garnish with cocktail onions.

Jo, think about it this way: having to straighten your stash gave you the
opportunity to get reacquainted with it.

I've found that a periodic stash-rearranging can be a substitute for purchasing
new fabric. (Granted, sometimes it's a substitute in the way that celery
sticks are substitutes for Chex Mix, but you can feel noble about your
fortitude.)

Johanna, I did come into Tesco's twice during the weekend, but couldn't find
you.... What a lovely store this is, I hope they renovate our local to the
same standard sometime soon.
We had a fabulous weekend in Dundee/Milngavie.
