If the fabric is washable, lots and lots of starch will help.

WOW!!! Thanks so much to everyone! My machine is brand new and runs
beautifully as far as I can tell, but I was worried that perhaps there
was a tension problem. I am certain that I'm using the right foot,
and after having played w/ different tensions and stitch widths, I
think some kind of stabalizer will be the way to go. I'm only
experimenting right now and I guess my practice fabric was a little
light. I also tried on one of my husband's old dress shirts and also
had the same tunneling affect. Until I can get my hands on a
stabalizer, I'll play around with the coffee filters. Who knew? LOL!
Look for more questions from me as I learn my way around my machine!
