suggested knots that cinch down by pulling only 1 string

Hi there,

I'm a novice knot tier.

Can anyone suggest a knot that cinches down and becomes tight by
pulling only 1 end of the string? I've got a situation where I want
to pre-tie a knot of a single string around a rod. I'd like to be
able to tighten this knot by pulling only one end of the string and
the knot becomes tight. I could also push against the knot.

If I read you correctly, you want a knot with which you only have
to pull the long end (what knot tiers call the 'standing part') to
tighten it around something. You say a 'rod'. Do you really mean a
rod? Are you going to load the standing part perpendicular to the rod
or parallel to the rod? Are you really looking for a knot to bind a
bundle of rods together by pulling the standing part. Are you going
to need to untie the knot? Let the group know and I'm sure we can
come up with a selection for you.
