Default Diamond Pricing Mystery

Diamond Pricing Mystery

I have a pretty good understanding of the 4 C's and I understand the
control De Beers has on the diamond market.

Pricing of diamonds is still a mystery to me. I cannot seem to find
any "rule of thumb pricing" for caret weights with varying Clarity,
Color and Cut characteristics. I have seen diamonds with the same
exact C characteristics in different "reputable" stores with thousands
of dollars of difference. Ideally, I would like to understand the
pricing and head to the diamond district in NY to get a good deal, but
I'm at a loss if I don't have an understanding of what a diamond
*should* cost. Maybe a layman like me should go somewhere like
blunenile.com which claims to be 40% off retail...

The Rap sheet can give you that if you can get someone to show it to you.
If you're really trying to do a 4c's comparisson the best way is with GIA
certs. The trouble with that is they add to the stone cost.

Some lie, some don't, some have high overhead, some don't.

Just as the industry likes it.
