Applique for baby quilt

Hi
Hoping for some advice from experienced appliqueists!
I would like to applique a quilt using fusible stuff and blanket stitching
by hand around the edges.
Question is - how sturdy is this method as it will have to take a fair bit
of washing etc.

I appliqued golliwogs on DS quilt using this method and found it very
sturdy. I used 'Vliesofix' with great results, also used the same
method for cushion covers and wallhangings.
