Default Invisible thread?

Who has used it and how did it look when you were done?

I thought I was using it, but now I've finished I'm not sure - I can't
see it...

I have used it for both hand (appliqué) and machine (quilting) use it looks
good IMO just make sure you use the right invisible thread for the fabric -
clear or Smokey are available and I have found that it's best to lay both
threads across the fabric to see which is the least noticeable for that
particular fabric.

it sews nicely by hand too - a lot less complicated than I expected

I've used it a lot on my panel quilts. You really can't see it. I'm
happy with it.

I have used it a fair bit, Diana.
I use it when I want the piecing to show more than the quilting. I have
found it fine, except for tying a knot with it!! That drives me crazy

I have used it and it really is invisible. The smokey color works very well
on darker fabrics.

I've used it, and it really is all but invisible. Be careful, though, to
get a brand that doesn't look shiny, as that would undo the whole idea.
"Unshiny" ones include YLI brand and Sew-Art, though there may be
others, too. Also, be sure to watch it as it comes off the spool and
through your machine (if you're not hand sewing); if it gets caught on
one of the guides, it can break rather easily and lead to frustration.

I agree about choosing the brand carefully. I've seen many different levels
of quality and "shine". My current preference is the Superior Threads,
although there are many other very good ones. You want to look for one that
is fairly thin (fine) for the best quality of work. Some of the thicker ones
hold the kink of the wrap of the spool and give off a weird sort of sparkly
effect on the quilt top, whether Smokey or clear. Something about the kinks
make the thread reflect back. When you run your fingers down the thread, it
should feel smooth, not rough. Anyway, other than that caveat, I've found it
works very well. Oh yeah, another Very Important Tip!!! When using the
invisibles in the bobbin, a quilt teacher told me to only wind the bobbin
1/2 to 1/3 of the way full. The thinner thread can make the bobbin "too
full" and it doesn't feed right. Once I made this change, I had simply
lovely results using the Superior Thread in both the needle and the bobbin.
I'm sure other fine invisibles would work well also.

Hi Diana,

I use only the Sulky Invisible Thread. It is 100% polyester. It sews in
nicely (just loosen the top tension) and you can press it (the nylon thread
will melt). It is not stiff and pokey when you get done (like nylon) AND,
it hides a multitude of quilting sins.

Happy quilting,

I have, and it was invisible. (Sorry, could not help it! 8^) It was
easy to use, and truly is hard to detect from a distance. Nancycog in MD
