Melissa, your list frightened me half to death. Bless your heart for
being brave enough to make an actual list that you actually have to
look at. I couldn't do that- I'd be overwhelmed and run screaming from
the house. Most of my UFOs go back 10 or more years! YIKES!!!

Leslie (who recently finished a 12-14 year old UFO for my hubby's
daughter's wedding gift) & The Furbabies in MO.

PS: Does anyone else heartily dislike the word "step"- as in
step-mother or step-daughter? I'd so much rather my "step-daughters"
referred to me as their dad's wife. They already have a mother... I'd
like to be thought of as their friend. I always refer to them as
Sibley's daughters.

That's impressive, Melissa!
And very daunting. I wish you luck at meeting those deadlines. I fear
this is going to be a lot like me after New Year (I just haven't worked
it all out yet g)

Leslie - I was just on the phone with Dads wife....I call her Mom. I
abhor the term "stepmother" because the only image that seems to come to
mind is Cinderella and the witch she had as her dad's second wife. Mom
is nothing like that at all. In fact, I told her just recently that,
while she may not be my mom physically, I consider her the mom of my
heart. DOn't get me wrong, I love my MOther as well, but Mother just
doesn't seem to "get it" when it comes to me. I am too far out of her
scope for her to understand, and in 32 years, she has never relaly even
made the effort to get to know who I am. She still see me as the cookie
cutter child that she tried to raise sigh.

Mom has 2 children and I call them my brother and sister, their children
are my nieces and nephews. My MIL, is not called MIL, but she is called
Momma..that's what DH calls her, that's what I call her.

Yep, I'm an odd one...I adore Dads wife and Hubbys mom....sue me if you
dare grin.

Larisa, blessed to have Mother, Mom, and Momma :-)

Okay....I count 13 projects there....after reading what will follow, you
are hereby permitted to take a few deep breaths and relax knowing you
aren't the most "scattered"...procrastinating....uh...what;s the right
word....anyway, you aren't the one with the most things going on that
haven't been finished:

1-resize (trim some places, add to others) pieced top and bottom for Mom
and Dads quilt - started about 3 years ago
2-enlarge picture to make Dads quilt of his book cover
3-new quilt for MBR - have started getting fabrics together, but that's
about it
4-baby quilt for friends grandbaby
5-baby quilt for friends grandbaby that is for her to keep at her house
6-t-shirt quilt for DH (2 bags of shirts waiting to be cut down)
7-memory quilt for DS
8-start memory quilt for DD

9-sweatpants for DS (2 pairs)
10-fleece jacket for DH (fabric sitting in storage for 2 years)
11-3 pairs of flannel pants for DS to go with his room (superheroes)
12-4 pairs of flannel pants for the annual Christmas gifts
13-jumpers for DD
14-pants for DD
15-nightgown for myself
16-boxer-style shorts for DH and myself
17-wardrobe for myself - several pieces, something like 12 different things)

18-touchup paint in living room
19-finish painting upstairs bathroom
20-paint dryer area
21-touchup paint in hallway
22-patch drywall seams and nails in garage

Want me to keep going????

Larisa

I don't have any 'step' type relationships but to me what you
call someone is a whole lot less important than how you treat
them.
Interestingly my folks were called mom and dad by some of our
mates and by their first names from others. (there are 7 of
us kids)
The ones that treated them better definitely are the ones that
used my folks first names. YMMV!

Yes, Leslie. I heard it done beautifully a long time ago by a very loving
thoughtful mother. She called hers her daughter, and the "by marriage" her
"chosen" daughter. He chose you. You chose him. Thus - the offspring are
chosen too. Our "chosen" daughter loves her designation. Calls herself
that. Actually, I think she might feel a bit superior about it. Wouldn't
have it any other way. Polly
