My first (and only) quilt teacher made a quilt of precisely that floor;
and it might explain why I love making quilts of those floors. They are
so beautiful; and the patterns used by those medieval tilers are so
similar to quilt patterns. The ones that I have done so far will, in
time, I hope be supplemented by two of the Cosmati floor in the
sanctuary of Bristol Cathedral (much more modern - but same style). I
have completed one of them so far.

I've just been doing exactly the same thing.

And... yes, of course I watched it in the end, despite all my
protestations otherwise.

And the dress was gorgeous and elegant and the flowers (lily of the
Valley) were understated and, no doubt, fragrant, and the pomp and
ceremony made me proud to be British. We can put on a good show when
the chips are down. The lace was hand made by the Royal School of
Embroidery and Needlework based in Hampton Court.

Some of those hats, however, were astounding, in all the wrong ways.
Princess B and Mrs Beckham particularly come to mind. Posh just HAD
to have a tart-string, somewhere didn't she?

Kate should love the dress, I think. Very fifties and plain,
simplicity and fitting taking over from bling and flounces.

There is no-ne worse than a convert, and that's me. OK?

Natch! I shall have to look up the hats... I don't make hats, you know...

I do. I thought is damned near perfect. In style quite like Princess
Margaret's wedding gown (the epitome of elegance).

I see Arr Kate took my advice about a plain veil...

Natural gas?

That shows our age, lass!

My first (and only) quilt teacher made a quilt of precisely that floor;

and it might explain why I love making quilts of those floors.

Last year, I spent a while rubbing floors and taking photos of Bootham
Park Hospital in York. The most beautiful floors, walls and
ceilings. I shall be making a quilt of that as my next project.

Also, look out for photos of St Mark's in Venice for a real show-
stopper.

Was Princess B the one with that very strange contraption on her
head that looked like something from a Dr. Seuss illustration? It was
brownish and had these swirly things that stood up from the front of the
hat -- looked like they were at least 12" high! Those swirly things
looked like the cartoon swirls someone would draw over a cup of steaming
cocoa. I saw the hat as the girls were getting out of their car and
walking into Buckingham Palace with their Father. Odd -- very odd -- to
say the least. CiaoMeow ^;;^

That is definitely a very odd hat. Though her dress suits her very well
indeed.
What I want to know though is who let her sister out of the house dressed
like that? From the pictures I have seen it appears that she is wearing
a churchlady blouse from wally world with a largish heating pad wrapped
around her waist. Either those are very poor photos or there had ought
to be some changes in household staff! Someone did a bad job of picking
it, or someone is not telling her the truth about how her clothes look on
her.

I got a look at Mrs. Beckham, next to the royals she is the one I keep an
eye on so far as clothes. I don't quite know what to make of her
selection.

I am all but leaping for joy over the wedding gown.
I didn't expect her to go with a floating meringue, but I also didn't
expect her to get anywhere close to what I would have suggested. Oh and
the lace! people will be asking for carrickmacross now! It is one of the
simpler laces to make. I can have fun lazing about working motifs that I
have wanted to play with and then using them later.

If I could have been there, I would have had the most outrageous hat
and the most amazing dress and would have loved every single second of
being a total upper-upper-crust snob.

(the neckline of her dress is almost exactly like the neckline of the
wedding dress my mom made for me)
