Ready for the Directory?
I think I can vouche for Lady Aurora, as she is a member of the Queen's
court here. : ) Karen, Queen of Squishies I'm not much of a routine poster, but I used to be and I've been patiently waiting for the Directory to return (I resurfaced about two weeks after the last issue). I used to be in a few versions of the Directory way back when, and I'm sure there are some folks here who still remember me. I'm more active on the swaps like Your Pick because when I'm traveling, I can check email on my phone (but not newsgroups). I travel about 4 times a year, now. So, since I'm returning but still kinda quiet and yet folks know me, can I be allowed to be part of the Directory? I won't even try if I'll get turned down. ~Lady Aurora, Guardian of the Royal Bounty "AliceW" wrote in message ... Thanks to all who helped test the Directory form this time around. Your input was very useful and I appreciate you're taking the time to help. Ok, the form will open this weekend and will be open until September 15th. Wait for the "open for business" posting. Here are a few details that you need to memorize before filling out the form: 1- Only verified, routine posters will be added to the Directory. That means if you have been a lurker but have surfaced recently, you may have to wait until the next version. This is nothing personal - we value our private info very highly and take no chances with it. If you are too new to make it into the Directory this time but are interested in sending a squishie or other item to someone in particular, email them for their address. We very rarely turn down an offer for a squishie! 2- Only one form per person, please! Duplicate forms will cost you a FQ - purple or green please. 3- One change that you will notice is that the Yuks are gone, history, outta here. Instead, I changed the fields to preferred fabric types. So you can enter batiks, blenders, tone-on-tones, WoW, 30's, florals, plaids, hand-dyeds etc. So, there are 4 fields for your preferences - 2 for color choices and 2 for fabric type/pattern choices. Keep them short and sweet. 4- The other change is with birthday information. Now, you can select your month and day. No more years. Quilting keeps us young, no need for the year. This information is, as always, optional. 5- Once you hit the "submit" button, you will receive a confirmation of the information you entered. At the bottom of this form is the date of your entry. Print this form - I repeat, - PRINT THIS FORM! 6- Ok, now the toughest request - please, please, please do not use all CAPS! This is a format that folks use when they are yelling at someone and I don't respond very well when folks yell at me (:( So, your first name and last name should appear as First Name. Easy? Good. 7- I will post reminders on the newsgroup every week. If you miss the deadline, you need to wait until next revision - no exceptions. 8- If you were in the last Directory, you still need to reenter your information since the form has changed-and your color and fabric preferences may have changed as well! Once all the info is gathered, I will get the formats into shape. LN is not taking as active a role this time around, so you'll have to be patient with me as I vet the entries and get the appropriate formats emailed to everyone. I may not get it exactly right the first time, so if I mess up, please refer to the second sentence in detail #6. Ok, now your homework. Figure out what the heck your two favorite colors and your two favorite fabric types/patterns are! Hint: these fields should NOT contain verbs! Ok, now I'm going to bed. -- Alice in NJ, Royal Cybrarian http://www.ourcyberfamily.us/ "Just about the time a woman thinks her work is done, she becomes a grandmother." Edward H. Dreschnack |

Ready for the Directory?
I remember Gillian too, we used to actively communicate with each other.
Then life just gets in the way, you know? I was glad to see her posting again here awhile back. Karen, Queen of Squishies I hope for the same thing. I don't usually post much, usually only if I have something to say, but that doesn't mean that I am neglectful in sending positive thoughts, prayers, etc. to those who need them. I will send my information again this year when the form is open and hope for the best! Gillian in SW Michigan. Ready for the Directory?
I know we all thank you and are tickled pink you do this for us, but I
wonder if you truly know how appreciated you are? This newsgroup is a most magical place and the directory is so very special to it. I've never been to a quilt show, I've never belonged to a quilter's guild, I've never taken a quilt class, but the information I've learned here, and the fellowship, sharing, and genuine concern for others that is exhibited, makes me feel I haven't missed a thing. Thank you again for your unselfish time and energy given to this project. We truly do appreciate you. AliceW wrote: Thanks to all who helped test the Directory form this time around. UFOs Ready for the Directory?
BJ, I don't think it's a ufo until it's been completely untouched,
physically or mentally, for at least a year. Can't advise you about candlewicking, never tried it. Got photos? Hope your thumb gets up to speed soon! Roberta in D "BJ" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... I'm very new too. I was warmly welcomed about 2 months ago. I got some excellent advice about a quilt I was working on. I haven't been able to finish it - had thumb surgery which went very well, but the thumb still isn't quite strong enough to do the quilting yet (would that be my first ufo?). I started on a candlewicking quilt while I wait. I've never done any candlewicking before (heck! I've never done ANY sewing until 2 years ago), but it's coming along nicely. I'm planning to try and meet some of you at the Houston quilt show. My DIL has been warned that I will need a little time away from them when I'm there that week and she's excited about going for a little while too. I've never been to a quilt show before, but I understand that I should have started saving my money a long time ago. Right now I'm looking for the perfect hoop to use with my candlewicking. I've done four 12 inch squares so far, but I'm still don't think I've found quite the right one yet. Suggestions welcomed!! UFOs Ready for the Directory?
Ohhhhhh...then I've hardly had time to have a UFO. No pictures of the
candlewicking yet..I tried, but it doesn't show good - thread and muslin the same color - but a friend of mine did one and it looked like an instant heirloom - just gorgeous. I'm hoping mine looks at least half as good. Maybe when it comes together, it will show up. Or maybe I just need a photography lesson. Ready for the Directory?
I'm just soooo impressed and humbled. That someone would take the care,
thought and time to do this is just amazing. Thank you doesn't seem to be enough. So I guess I'll have to wait and see what your "Yums" are. For lack of better words, Thank You Alice! KJ |

PS - I just looked at your quilts. WOW!! Hard to say which on I like the
best. Do you do your own quilting? You must really, really love the in-laws - that one is awesome, but I think I'm in love with Aunt Marge's quilt. the fabric combo are so beautiful. UFOs Ready for the Directory?
Candlewicking is similar to chenille, only done by hand. Usually is done on
muslin with ecru candlewicking thread, which has several strands (I don't remember how many). -- Bonnie NJ "Roberta Zollner" wrote in message ...
