Oldest material
The question on first quilts made me wonder what is the longest you have had
a piece of material in your hoard?? I have 3 yards of turquoise cotton with a small patterned weave through it, that I bought for 2 shillings and sixpence at our local market in the mid 1960's and brought to Australia when we came here in 1969. I used to get it out occasional and could never decide what to make with it so it was put back and there it still lies wrapped in the chest. Guess it may be there a while because I still can't think what to make with it Gramma |

I got some lovely stuff from the 50s that I got from Meme (my gram)'s stash, and all of her extra fur from the 30s/20s. But the oldest stuff I bought is mid 80s. I'm still a youngin. -georg |

ack! turquoise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just been hunting for that very
colour to make a bag for my niece. This little country town has a limited choice of turquoise. Oh Yeah by the way I am back from my 3 week tripping around Tasmania and Sydney. hahah I snuck (sp?) away when ya all were looking at Sharon looking for her logo. Was gonna come and visit you Sharon, on my way thru Melbourne but I only had 1.5 hours at the airport. Definitely not enuff time to visit and raid your stash. Maybe next time. -- Kathy B in West Oz http://community.webshots.com/user/kazzxie51 "Gramma" wrote in message ... I have some vintage fabric from around 1900, but actual purchase date? Don't
think there's much of anything older than about 1976 (Liberty cotton scraps from a dress I made for DD1). Roberta in D "Gramma" wrote in message ... I have some feed sack scraps from at least 50 years ago. The oldest
stuff that I actually bought is probably not more than 40 years old. Julia in MN -- This message has been scanned for viruses by Norton Anti-Virus http://webpages.charter.net/jaccola/ |

Well, I have some fabric that my Mom and Dad bought in about 1959 or so.
I have used some of it. I've been sewing since about 1963(?) and used that fabric for one of my projects in jr high home ec class. I'm pretty sure I still have scraps from my high school home ec class projects the next year. Yes they are cotton. Yes I have used scraps from clothes in quilts. Yes I keep all sorts of things, if you saw my house you wouldn't even question it. BG Pati, in Phx. well, I only started quilting in 95, but I think I bought some fabric
when I first lived in the US, in 93. so 11 years. Gramma wrote: The question on first quilts made me wonder what is the longest you have had a piece of material in your hoard?? While I've aquired some vintage fabric thru the years,
the oldest fabric that I purchased new dates to 1970. I worked in a fabric store and went to college. It has a motif of scissors; I used a bit in Leslie's Hug.
