Default machine spinning wheels

I'm intrigued by those 900$ electric spinning machines, what ARE they,
how do they work, and who spins production style yarn? I've never seen
handspun wool on sale..handdyed yes, but handspun, no.

They're exactly what the name says - motorized spinners for people who
are unable or unwilling to treadle a traditional spinning wheel.
"Production spinning" is what some of us do to try to make a living :P

I never realized they had electric spinning machines. I was fortunate to
try my hand, or I should say my hands and feet on a spinning wheel, made
myself some yarn, don't know if it was actual wool, or some manmade fiber,
but enjoyed it. I had dreamed of having some sheep and learn how to sheer
them to make my own yarn, but think that will never happen, but I still can
get myself a spinning wheel, and purchase some wool to make my own yarn
someday.

If you buy a bobbin or two, you could make your own electric spinner,
My DH made mine, out of an elec motor used for a sewing machine..you'll
need to get a foot pedal for it as well, .a piece of heavy duty wood, and
some leather bearings to hold the bobbin in place get a bobbin, and then
you'll need some pieces of wood to make uprights to hold the bobbin into,
fix the wood to the base board,(heavy duty wood, a piece of railway sleeper
or somethign similar) by using L brackets, then fix the motor opposite it,
if you buy a new motor, they come with brackets for fixing..or at least mine
did. Next get some wheel band and cut and melt together at the right size
for the distance between bobbin and motor, and basically that is it...to
reverse the action put a twist in the band - figure 8 -
I don't use mine much, but if I do, I use it for plying if I have a lot on,
I don't use it for spinning the singles.

Cheers....Cher
