Helloooooooo! Anyone there?
Finally, past weekend was a guild workshop - we brought in Beth Robertson & Suzanne Howren "SHEAR Designs" - to do "Effective Embellishments" - which was basically doing kind of a starting point for a stitch guide for a painted canvas - each person had their own. We gave them color copies - full size - they gave us some thread suggestions, and at class then 6 stitch ideas & 6 areas to play with. It was opening up some creativity - and treating the canvases like an outline with the threads as the painting tools - very good class. There is another 2 day session in April. Great fun - they also periodically would announce "teachable" moments. DH is quite thrilled because I am finally working on the rather large bell pull that I bought for him at market 10 years ago. Started on the parrot in the middle - will then move to the Sun Conure on the bottom - the parakeet is the top bird and outside the area the class covers - but that's okay. The teachers were great about it - the piece is limited in size to 196 sq in - so I marked off to essentially do slightly more than 2/3, There are also leaves/branches/vines & some flowers. Very nicely, I had some awesome JL Walsh silk, which is no longer made, and between myself, and their stash - we had enough - as none of us can use it for a teaching piece. So very kind of them to give it to me - like 5 skeins (3 colors). But, I'll be recompensing with some refreshment when we're all at seminar in August. So, I've been doing some stitching - albeit slowly. Well, that's the deal here - today DH was off work for some DC kind of reasons involving it being better to avoid where he works. So we took advantage of the fabulous weather, and after taking our digi=projector to loan to the EGA chapter president, then hit the road west, to a vineyard we like - and went wine tasting (using a great coupon from a site sponsored by the local Fine Dining group or somesuch). It was a bargain - expires on the 31 - so we thought to beat the crowd - they're open on Friday. Beautiful out in the hills - had tasting of 4 reds, 3 whits, cheese/cracker plate & 2 glasses of wine, plus $20 towards a bottle of wine. So, we left with 3 bottles of wine - and this is the vineyard that sells at our farmers mkt - so the manager actually gave us the employee discount - it was quite a bargain day - considering I think our coupon only cost $30. And they had just started selling a new vintage of one of the reds... Then on the scenic route home - windows open, saw lots of horses all out and about - we stopped at the very good pizza place owned by/adjacent to our favorite restaurant in Leesburg and had a little pizza & salad - pizza with mushrooms, sausage, caramelized onions/garlic, feta cheese & white truffle oil. Yum. Then home. Very good day. With any luck the CAPS will win a game tonight. Or not. Ellice Fireworks - always a good choice. Hate that I have to drive that far to get great pizza! BTW, the roasted olives are rather addictive. You know that I'm kicking myself for not taking the Canvas Embellishment class. But I just didn't see how I could fit it in to my current schedule. I did hear good things about the class from a couple of people. Which only made me jealous. Donna in Virginia |

It was just lovely sitting on the deck and smelling the wood ovens going. I hated spending the $$ on that class, but I can honestly say, a worthy investment. If it didn't require all the up-front effort from the instructors, I would have let you join in for the half-class, but it's not possible. Sincerely - if you're thinking of doing the seminar in Philly - do their class. Especially as it's taught with Tony & Meredith. When they do it at seminar, that is the absolute happiest class all week. However, it does rob you of the opportunity to do anything else for several days. Thought that PANG is going to try and get them to do it in another year or so??? We may get them to do an encore in 2014, and they'll do something commercial though it will be more costly if thru a shop. Oh, well....we just got back from the day of pincushion - DH had to take me as I'm not supposed to drive today with the combo medicine., so of course I'm not risking stitching 'cause that would mean more ripping than sittchin'. Now....where to get dinner....... Ellice |

I try to remember to check Google Newsgroups a few times a week but it's not nearly as easy as just getting the emails used to be. :-) I've been working on the "may the hinges of friendship never rust" project, finished the baby's name section (except for the date) on TIAG's "Baby in a Basket" and actually have the graph paper out to chart the horse's ears project. I'd be working on the mom's tabletopper, too, but I'm waiting for the purple #12 Perle Cotton to arrive. :-) Just as well. DH just had allergy testing last week & we need to work on dust mites & mold. He's also allergic to some trees, grasses & weeds but we can't really do much about that without moving so they'll have to be dealt with later. :-) Has anyone here tried deMite? It looks good on line and in the brochure the Dr's office gave us but $17 for an 8 oz bottle seems a little steep. Oh well. I DID find a CA King mattress cover for the bed on Overstock.com last night (or was it early this morning ?) before I went to bed. We may pull up the carpets this summer. We're waiting for warm weather so we don't have to worry about the pulled up carpet getting rain sodden before we can afford to take it to the dump. :-) Since we're now having the rain that we are supposed to get in February, we don't want to be messing around making dust in the house. We only have plywood/pressed wood floors underneath the carpet, except for the concrete (not the trendy kind) floor in the family room but it will be better for his health than the 21 year old carpet is now. :-) The new meds have made an amazing difference though, as has the news that Singulair is going generic (hopefully) by the end of the year. Yikes! Before the new inhaler and the Singulair, DH wasn't in any danger of ending up in that Medicare prescription doughnut hole thing but, with those added, we may have to be looking at prescriptions more carefully. I would gladly pay the amount to have his coughing go away (as it has in the past month) but he is more hesitant to pay for drugs & medical visits. Sometimes I wish he were 6 instead of 64!!! :-))) |

We did not go as far as the DeMite stuff...I think I bought one package with the best of intentions...but you know where that leads: It's still in the closet. sue -- Susan Hartman |

I can't believe I was so silly, but I replaced it with the identical machine (however, it was "built" last October). Hopefully the dead one was just a lemon. Gill |
