Ott lite deals
One of my Ottlite bulbs gave it up over the weekend. Local prices are
outrageous -- Joann wants $27 for the replacement I need, and the Sylvania bulbs with the same form-factor plug just don't cut it as they are QUITE yellow. Joann.com is offering a 40% online order only discount on ONE item, but shipping knocks the price back up over $20, not much of a deal. So far the best base price I've found on replacement bulbs is at http://www.betterlite.com. 13w bulbs are $18, 18w bulbs are $20, screw-in 20w bulbs are $35. There is even (be still my heart) a 40w T10 tube now, comes in a set of 4 for $68. Unfortunately this site doesn't list shipping and won't give you a shipping cost until you've plugged in all your info (including your cc#). I have emailed to ask for shipping costs on the items I want to order (13w bulbs) and will hopefully have an answer tomorrow. NAYY |

Slinky,
Have you tried a Home Depot or Lowes store or AC Moore to see if they have them? I didn't think the bulbs were that expensive, but I might be wrong. Wasn't this question brought up earler in the year about the light and someone told the price of replacement bulbs? I haven't time right now or I would do a google search for you. Hugs, Nora |

The nearest thing any of the U-do-it stores offers is a Sylvania bulb with a
horrible CRI. Cheap they may be, but I can't STAND that nasty yellow light. Even coated incandescent bulbs have a better CRI than those Sylvania things. I did just get off the phone with a store here in town that sells nothing but light bulbs. He's got an off-brand with a CRI of 92 for $7. Ott-lites have a CRI of 94, so the $7 bulb will probably be tolerable. I will, however, ask for a "demo" in a back room before I bring it home. Anybody need 13w Sylvania CF bulbs? I've got three that need a new home... "NoraBalcer" wrote in message ... Slinky, Have you tried a Home Depot or Lowes store or AC Moore to see if they have them? I've seen some compact fluorescents that are nearly pee-yellow. Almost as bad as sodium lights! Then again, the Ott light I got at Hancock Fabrics was so extremely blue that I couldn't distinguish between certain of my brown and purple colored pencils without adding an incandescent lamp to the other side of my drawing board. One of the catalogs I buy from carries Ott bulbs as well as Chromalux and Verilux. I don't think any of them approach your $7 bargain, though it might be interesting to read about them all: http://www.aswexpress.com/artsupplyw.../lighting.html Helen "Halla" Fleischer, Fantasy & Fiber Artist in Fairland, MD USA http://home.covad.net/~drgandalf/halla/ |

Color Rendition Index. The nearer the CRI of a bulb is to 100, the more
closely it mimics Actual Daylight. Or so I've determined by reading doubletalk on various mfg and vendor websites. I haven't yet made it out of the house, but I'll report on the no-name bulbs when I have one in hand - that will be not later than this evening, I can't STAND that yellow bulb another night!
