Yes you are right that was the shawl ,,,, alas the pattern is not mine

INTERWEAVE knits , Fall 1998, page 44 " The Elegant Seamen` scarf, by
Myrna A. I. Stahman .

And by the way wew were talkig Muffs and i am still working on my
model, but i found out now that Interweave Knits , winter 02/03 , page
104, has an article " Aran Muff " by Alissa Baptista ,
And yes that was the part i was surprisingly invited to ,,, after
shops were closed ,,,,,
SO i can`t give the pattern , but can give you a description of the
idea ..... This scarf is made in three parts , 2 outer parts [ends]
are a 1/3 of total length and as wide as you want them the middle 1/3
is ribbed , which makes it stay better on the nape , where `normal`
shawls alway get squeezed anyway , so by ribbing it stays better in
place , and doesn`t have this Disorderly look ,,,,
And i can share with you my private version , whivh i made several
years ago , before ever seeing the above pattern ,,,,
Cast on enough stiches for the Length of wanted shawl knit one row all
along , in second row knit 2/5 the length of the row, turn knit back
to end and knit all over row , now knit back 2/5 of row on opposite
side of firs short row ,,,*, knit 2 whole rows , knit 2/5 row and back
, knit whole row and 2/5 of other side * this is your repeat ,, end
with 1 knitted row, when you fel shawl is wide enough to cover your
nape Well ,, middle part is ribbed by the all knit. to make a more
`delicate ` edge i crochet around it a tiny picot , sc [usa] [=double
chain in UK] into each knit st , chain 2, sc [usa ] into next knit
stic,,,, on corner make 2 sc [usa] into end knit stich 4 chain 2 sc
[usa[] into same st.

Okay, so it is a scarf around the neck, not a shawl around the shoulders.
That was really my question. As I had said, I found LOTS of Seaman Scarves.
In fact, the DNA Helix Scarf that I did for my DB (and he's wearing it!!!!)
for Christmas is like that.

Thanks.
