I'm going to speak to her and find out where! She's been planning this move to Manhattan for the last couple of years - and I'm sure is thrilled. She has Parkinson's (early stages) and wanted desperately to be in the city - where there is so much on the doorstep, as well as with some strict requirements for them - needing minimal entry stairs, shopping within a short walk, etc., and not wanting to spend more than $1.3 M or so... With 2 bathrooms. She's never wanted to retire to FLA, and they're keeping their townhouse on the Jersey shore - though I think that she's making her DH sell his Corvette (unless he's figured out to garage it at the shore - who knows). Personally, I've never really wanted to move back to NY - though I'd be happy living in a nice condo w/ terrace in DC. Ellice The city is absolutely bubbling over with a vibrant energy it's hard to describe. It's a great place for people with disabilities because it is very adapted by code. $1.3 is about right for a two bed/two bath, renovated kitchen and lavy(s). It truly is an amazing city. Never a moment when nothing is going on. Broadway shows actually ON Broadway, not the traveling troupe. I'm happy for your sister like cousin. That is how I am with my cousin in MD. We grew up two blocks away from each other. Well, she was a LI girl, and while her DH was in the Navy, they lived in MD & Conn - then moving to NJ. But, I know she's always wanted to be back in the city. This cousin went to law school in her 40s - she'd been a reference librarian for years, and changed careers. But has been slowing down her work, and I think is quitting totally after the 1st. We always try to do an outing in the city whenever we visit. So this will be great. They're working on the downsizing, and with keeping the townhouse at the shore for now, don't have to get rid of everything. This cousin - her mom and mine were best friends (my DD's younger sister) - as they met when 16, and did their courting together. I loved my aunt, and we were always able to talk with each other's moms when our owns communication was difficult. Cousin is about 10 years older, her sister about 4 years older - and we moved when I was 5 to be closer to them. So, I spent a lot of time with the sister (who has been an Aussie for the past 30+ years) - but the older sister and I have similar personalities - and as young adults, and now have been very close. She's a true original women's rights activist from the 60s. Anyhow - I'm hoping to get details on their place later today. It's just staggering how costly to live there - I'm sure the former mortgage or whatever payments will be what goes to the building fees. I don't have the details. But, they did sell their son's large studio which was on 53rd near Bloomies - for about $350 - and their lovely house on an acre, backing the golf course, with a pool - for I think around $600. He had just sold their company to a large corporation - and so that let them be able to pay cash, no mortgage for the place in the city. But, he's still working w/ a contract for 5 years. I think this let them do a little better in finding an apt - previously they had been trying to stay more like $1.1, but I'm thinking they were able to go higher. These numbers are all just insane. However, we're thrilled to have a place to stay in the city now! I hope he keeps the vettel Beautiful car. It is. We laugh at CIL as the car doesn't come out in any kind of bad weather. He and DH get along famously - my DB is amazed as the DCIL is pretty quiet, and my DB says in our whole lives he can't recount more than 20 words. But, not true - just that he and my DH have very similar personalities and are actually pretty good fun - and we play with our sports cars - some kind of engineer bonding thing. Happy Days to all Victoria Exactly. I'm just sort of wasting my days, catching up on cleaning, stitching, sewing, paprework, etc. I don't have the heart to do more job hunting just now, but will be in full swing after another week or so. Yuck. But, now I'm going to go stitch some more! Ellice |

Sheena, have you ever tried that trick with, oooohhh, what is it? soaking or dunking, or whatever in baking soda and tin foil? I'm sure *some*one here must remember what I'm talking about, although I'm also very sure you're done with it by now! lol Joan |

Sometimes not all the message propagate at the same speed, and yours might hit my server first. BTW, it does work. I usually use washing soda (if I have it) rather than baking soda. MargW |
