Outlet and mini plug not working!!! Help!

Ok,
I installed the mini plug on the lamp as per instructions - I cut off
the big plug, stripped the wires, inserted them in the sides, slid the
pins and and used pliers to get them all the way in. Then I plugged
it into an outlet (uninstalled) and touched the outlet pins to two
live eyelets on an unfinished wall. I tested using an unconverted
lamp by touching the big plug to those same eyelets, and it lights up
fine. So I cut the small plug off, strip the wires and touched those
wires to the same two live eyelets, to see if the lamp is working. It
is. So I re-install the small plug, plug it back into the outlet, and
touch it's pins to the eyelets. Nothing.

What's going on? Does the outlet have to be fully installed to work?

Ok... it's solved. I *was* doing everything right. But the bulb
wasn't screwed in properly in the fixture! Once we got that fixed,
everything's been working perfectly.

Sigh....
