Wow, is this a small world! I was born and raised in Racine! That was a
few decades ago, and I haven't been back there since 1994, but it's still my
hometown. I miss the kringles and the REAL bakeries -- here in the suburb
of Minneapolis that I live in, we're stuck with Krispy Kremes, which I never
did develop a liking for.

Well, here in Corpus "Krispy" (Christi) Texas, we are very excited to
finally have a Krispy Kreme. Yep, got a Krispy Kreme and a Starbucks in the
same parking lot opened within a few days of one another, I think it was in
August. I grew up in South Carolina, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts were just
the BEST. The school band always sold them for fundraisers. Now, having
traveled a bit and tasted bakery treats on a few continents, I'll admit that
I have tasted some better things...but that hot, fresh, soft,
glaze-isn't-even-dry-yet doughnut is hard to beat. Oh yeah.

What's better than having a doughnut shop and a coffee shop in the same
parking lot? Having a doughnut shop and a coffee shop in the same parking
lot as the fabric/yarn store!

LOL, I *hate* Krispy Creme... I can taste TALLOW in 'em! Now, give me
Dunkin' Donuts anyday if it HAS to be a chain rather than a bakery. I DO
adore Dunkin'Donuts COFFEE, I just can't get any here....

I like DD better too, although to my taste buds, there's nothing that can
beat a good old-fashioned family-run bakery. I developed an instant
aversion to Krispy Kreme when they opened the store here, which was the
first one to open in the metro area. It turned into a massive media event.
A radio station set up their broadcast from there, they actually ran SHUTTLE
BUSES from the nearby shopping center parking lot, and the traffic was tied
up around the area for a couple days. The morning of the opening was
horrible. People were doing one-upsmanship about sitting in the drive
through -- "I was there for 2 hours" -- "oh yeah? I was there for 2-1/2
hours" -- and so on. I went to a garage sale that first week they were
open, and there was a kid hawking them for $1.50 each! It took about two
weeks, and then it went down to just another store. The funny part is that
there had been a Krispy Kreme in a nearby burb ten or fifteen years ago, and
it had closed. So it's not like this was the first one around. I finally
had one about a month after they opened. It was okay, but I still don't
know what all the hoopla was about.

I'd be doomed.
Those hot, sweet, clouds from Krispy Kreme would be the death of me!
I am actually glad the nearest one is 30 miles away.

Well now, CNN just had a piece on Krispy Kreme about a week ago, on AM in
the morning.... something about it being one of the best stocks to buy
right now...
As I said, I can taste TALLOW in their stuff, YUCK!
I couldn't agree more about a REAL bakery, I miss them.... DD's aren't even
around here, and I want some of their coffee, drool...
Hugs,
Noreen

Well, we are getting our first KK next spring. I won't be there or at DD's as
they don't make sugar-free donuts yet.

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Noreen,

Well, there are some great sugar free cookies and a banana nut cake that I get
when we go to The Old Country Buffet once a week. The cookies are so good. You
can also get them at The Golden Corral too and they let you buy them.

Hugs,

Nora
