Hard to say without using it. I would want to know about a walking
foot, quarter inch foot, ability to drop those dogs for free motion
quilting and watch a bobbin winding demo. Then take in some projects
which you would likely use on this machine--fleece, piecing, quilting,
clothing-- all of em (!) and see how the machine performs.

I agree with Mary, you would need to take a "test drive". The one thing that
I did notice that I don't think I would like is that it has a fixed pressure
system. If that means that the pressure on the presser foot is not
adjustable, I would keep searching. Just my opinion.

This actually looks fairly close to what I have. I use my old basic
mechanical machine for most of my piecing (because I'm used to the foot
for getting 1/4 inch seams). But I use a machine like this one for my
free motion. I think it works pretty well. I had to figure out how to
adjust the tension for free motion (it needs to go to the highest
setting to avoid loops on the back). Mine has a way to adjust the
pressure of the pressure foot but it is not visible from the front.
You can lower the feed dogs and you can adjust the speed (I like that
part a lot). It has a needle down feature.

Even though I'm satisfied I would suggest you take in a small sandwich
for a test drive and see what you think of it.

Something to consider in any Kenmore product: there is no such place as "the
Kenmore factory." All Kenmore products are built by someone else. (And it
changes occasionally, so knowing who built Kenmore X in 1977 or 1995 doesn't
tell you who builds it now.)

I'm not having an easy time of finding out the Kenmore sewing machine
manufacturers online (all I find is "different Asian manufacturers each
year"), but you might want to drop a line to Sears customer service and ask.
