Default Cutting A Glass Headlight?

For a science project I need to remove the front circumference
from a glass automobile headlight. I tried using a manual glass cutter
but could not get it to scribe. Any suggestions would be most
appreciated.

Even though you can score the glass, you need to be able to reach the
underneath the score in order to achieve a breakout.

(Notwithstanding the scenes in the movies where the jewel thief scores a
hole in a plate glass window and pulls the circle out with a suction cup
whilst dangling upside down in a laser filled vault....it can't be done.)

I think your best bet is to score around the outer edge (not the front!)
of the headlight, then try to force a stress fracture with heat. Try
making the score and then touching a red-hot wire to the edge... it has
to be done within a few minutes of making the score. If it works, you
may be able to tap the edge of the headlamp with a hard instrument and
have the front come off intact.

Good luck! I've never tried this, so take everything I said as speculation.

Spray rim with liquid nitrogen?
May actually work, and will look even more photogenic.

Don't forget the interior is under a vacuum. Could implode on you.
