Default Granny's Quilt

It arrived today, my Granny's quilt top, all folded neatly into a tiny
little bundle that fit neatly inside my mail box. I have to confess my
hands were shaking as I opened it. Oh my.....

The top is now spread out on my bed and I can hardly stand to look at
it for long. There, in neat blocks sewn together with just about
perfect seams, are squares of Granny's dresses, the kitchen curtains
from her little house, the rocking chair cushion, her bed covering.
It's like stepping back into a time when I was small and life was
simpler. I can't believe I'm touching something she touched and held
and cared about. It's very emotional for me.

My Granny was a rock. Now, she wasn't born that way and Lord knows she
must have made her share of mistakes in a life that spanned 102 years.
But when I knew her, hard times and faith had taught her a lot about
being strong and loving with a heart that knew no bounds. Whenever
things got hardest around our house, my parents sent me off to
Granny's house. And that was heaven.

So now I have a quilt top she made. And eventually I'll quilt it. But
for now I'm just going to wrap it around me and dream a little bit of
being in my Granny's house and feeling like the whole world was safe
and good.

Hugs,
Sunny

Have you been there, Ginger or Sunny or anyone else? I went a few years ago
and loved it. DH and I went Sunday only and spent hours looking at quilts.
Every year since I have worked and this year I don't work but I am too far
away for a day trip.

How wonderful! Made me feel a little teary-eyed too. You'll find even
more in it as you quilt it.

Oh, Sunny! What a treasure. I have nothing from my granny except a pretty
pink glass bowl. She left me a very modest amount of money- I used it to
build a small greenhouse next to my garden- but I sold that home and
property long ago, so I don't even have that. You are so fortunate to have
all these wonderful memories in the form of a quilt top!

The only thing I have from my great- grandmother is a Crazy Quilt. It is
kind of tattered and worn, but I get tears when I look at the beautiful
embroidery stitches. And I have a grandmothers flower garden from my
grandmother and a pink depression glass bowl.
