Plastic wrap

I don't really know where I should post this, but I guess people who do
crafts might know. I like to cover my small electronics (remote
control, mp3 player, etc) with plastic saran wrap to protect them from
spills, scratches, and what-not. But when I took the plastic wrap off
my remote, the wrap peeled the shinyness off my remote (it used to be
shiny plastic, but afterwards it was discolored). Do you know what
kinds of surfaces plastic is safe on? Do you know of a material that
might not cling so tightly on the surface?
