Default Need help finding hotel in Charleston, South Carolina

I've been looking into a short vacation the end of the month for my husband
and I in Charleston. I thought I had a good hotel picked out until I found
a place with reviews on each hotel. Turns out the hotel I picked is
apparently not so nice. Can some one help me find a nice, safe, clean hotel
with easy access to the historical district. I tried to reserve at the
Holiday Inn Historical District on Calhoun St. but they are full. We have
never been to Charleston before so we have no idea what area is nice and
what isn't. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Linda in Wisconsin

failing that, send me an email and i will get you in touch with some friends
in Chas who work downtown and see what they suggest. Haven't been there in
5 yrs so a lot could have changed.

You are very wise to ask. One time we stayed in a lovely place near Lake
Sidney Lanier out from Atlanta. Well, it was lovely until we realized that
the racket at 3 a.m. was all the sports fishing guys cranking up their
motors. Polly
