In article . com,
says...

*What Do YOU Collect?*

Hoo boy... are we talking about collections which have survived from my younger
days, or current things? In the former category: horse statues, buttons and
marbles, Canadian coins (actually I still collect those when I find them, but
they're not as common in TX as they were in MI), found kite string (a ball
about 6" in diameter).

More currently: eggs in stone and glass, Steve Scherer's lampwork animals,
kaleidoscopes, artistically interesting mineral samples (bismuth!), and way too
many books and CDs.

My collector's instinct also comes out in my choice of beads. The quickest way
to get me to spend money is to dangle a really unusual bead strand in front of
me -- like solidified lava-rock beads! I tend to specialize in minerals that
aren't on everyone else's table; it's one of the things that makes my work
different and (I hope!) memorable.

BOOKS! (Running over to look at bookcase)

Robotics and various physics books (Physics lover!)
Fitness and Sport Books (Doing a gym instructor course)
Andy McNab books (Good writer)
Quilting books (I've got ssoo many of them!)
Jewellery Books (Duh...)

And Swimming awards. I'm trying to get my 5000 mile cumulative award. The
kids I teach swimming to gave me the challenge to do it. Well, I'm trying
to hit my 100 mile this year, but y'know...

Charlie.

I know that the things I collect influence my beadwork. For instance,
the black and white vintage photos I gather compulsively make their way
into my jewelry, and other things do too. So----
*What Do YOU Collect?*

Please, keep it not-too-long....I realize for some of us, who collect
EVERYTHING under the sun, the list is quite huge. But it might help us
all learn about each other better if we keep it to our Top Thousand
Collecting Jones.

Ready? GO!!! (And I mean everybody! It helps the doldrums to think
about this stuff, right?)

I have a beagle and a dachshund so I collect dog things. Figurines,
prints, etc. Because it's hard to find good ones, I especially like
black & tan dachshund things. Also, my husband and I volunteer at the
Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME so we have strong interest
in trolleys, trolley busses, trains, etc. Because we live in a tiny
house with no room for train sets and such, we collect the smallest
transit things we could find: Tokens! We started collecting them after
my Pepier (grandpa) passed on. In going through his things I found a
mint-condition trolley token from the local street railway back in the
late 1800s. My mom gave it to me and it spiraled from there. We also
have some trolley prints from the museum, our living room is kind of
decorated in trolleys :-)

Oh, and beads. You can never be too rich or have too many beads.

We have so little space to spare that I don't collect things in any
quantity.

Beads, because they're great for small spaces
Teapots (I have half a dozen but all of them small 1-2 cup ones mostly)
Books (as many as I can find space for and a few extras)
Beads... did I mention them?
Memories... those don't take up much space and are easy to find when
you want them.

Kalera, you crack me up. Promotional Pork Slogans and Amusing food? You
must have a can of potted meat then. (that's a real thing, isn't it?)

I've been trying hard to *not* collect things. I don't really have any
collections other than frogs because I said I liked them once and now get
them occasionally. Be careful of what you gush over as a gift because you
might end up getting them year after year! I had to stop that chain once,
but that's another story.

So, I've tried not to accumulate because with 2 kids, the house starts to
shrink. I do like to collect funny word-isms (which I've called
Indiana-isms because it seems like my relatives from there do it the most).
Things like "bordello" mushrooms instead of portabello. "mannuerisms" (said
like anuerism) instead of mannerisms. Or words used in the wrong context (I
just typed that 'cotext'....see what I mean?) Of course, I collect them in
my head and they disappear...they really take up little room that way. )
