Default Help! "Plug" shows in stairwell

Well, I got the plug for the stairwell cut down to size, and glued it
place. It was nearly flush with the bottom of the hole so I thought it
was good enough, but when I put the white paper up on the ceiling to
disguise it, it shows. Now what? How do I get it down without
ruining the wallpaper on the walls?

Can you put some decorative molding or ceiling rose to cover it?

As it turned out, I was able to remove the ceiling paper just fine. I
had only applied it a couple of hours prior to deciding it HAD to come
down, and it was still wet enough that it peeled away - the ceiling
paper is ruined of course, but that's no big deal - it was just
cardstock and some paint.
