Default New To Me: Kenmore

I just acquired an old Kenmore Ultra Stitch 6 sewing machine from a
Freecycler. I cleaned the machine up, oiled it and changed out the
needle for a new one. It runs perfectly, very smoothly! I have no idea
how old this machine is, but I am very happy with it. It's very basic,
with very few stitch functions, but it will be a nice backup machine.
One thing I have noticed is that it is all metal, even the casing,
which is something I haven't seen on newer machines. Does anyone have
any experience of this particular model?

Not that particular model, Gillian, but I have an older Kenmore that is a
real workhorse. Until I got my FWs, it was my only machine and it has made
everything from clothes to quilts to coats and jackets. I don't know a
thing about the newer Kenmores, but the older ones seem to hold up very
well.

Congratulations! All I have are old Kenmore machines and I love them. My
serger is a new Kenmore so I guess it is the brand I like? or rather, the
brand I can afford.
My workhorse is a mid 1060 model with cams and fancy stitch thingy's that
aren't really practical at all but as for plain old sewing, she is a dream.
