Default Oh, the Weather outside

is AWFUL!

We've got about 6 inches of snow on top of ice here in SE Kansas and
COOOOOOLD! We haven't had real winter weather for several years, well we got
it today.

DH took the big girl (Holly) and went Duck hunting. She made many good
retrieves from what I've heard.

Me and the 2 little girls (Maggie and Starr) had much more sense and stayed
put in the house in the big chair under a quilt! Drank hot cocoa and made
ham and beans.

Although I did let them out in the yard when the snow started. Big flakes.
Starr rootled around in it and bounced all over the yard. When Maggie
decided that it wasn't food falling from heaven, she hurried back inside.
As did I, after I disconnected the frozen hose from the faucet. My bad.

Hope all our Missouri gals are doing ok and have their electricity where
they need it to be! South St Louis has a lot of lines down.

Hopefully this will be our big blast. I'm ready for spring. I never have
to stay home in the summer. I can't drive in this. I refuse to believe my
brakes won't stop me so I'm better off not trying.

My sister flew from south of Tampa to Dallas yesterday. I'm afraid to ask
her about the weather. I think the temp has dropped something more than 50
degrees in Dallas today. Polly

We have 2" of ice and snow falling......it is supposed to snow all
night. Temperature is now 14 (feels like 6 with wind chill)

I am not leaving here till the roads clear. I figure nature put that
stuff on the hills here, and I am willing to wait until she takes it
away!

Grretings to all from wintry Northwest Arkansas!!

I realise that it is scant comfort to those facing an icy
winter but we managed to go from 41F to 103F within 24 hours
the other day - interesting!

Default Oh, the Weather outside

Howdy!

...is perfect for quilting inside! g

We got rain, sleet, thunder, lightning, rain, snow, ice & the
Arctic breeze, all in about 18 hours last night/this morning.
Temperatures dropped more than 50 degrees in about 3 hours yesterday
evening. I even put on my coat, an actual coat!, to take out the
trash this morning. g
Temps in the 'teens tonight, w/ all that icky ice freezing
really hard to make the morning commuters miserable. The snow
was mostly a light sprinkling w/ flurries swirling all day.
The electricity went out in our 'hood this afternoon for about
an hour; I put another log on the fire and we called the electric
company (we heard the transformer blow), they came within minutes
and had us warmed up before things cooled off too much.
I sat on the sofa in the front room, near the fireplace,
watching the dancing snowflakes skimming the rooftops
and gliding over the trees, quilting away on my little project.
We'll have a warmer day tomorrow and that nasty ice will melt off
before too long. I'm still gonna' stay inside and quilt.
Ah, Texas winter -- comes in short bursts.

Ragmop/Sandy--hoping you stay warm where it's cold and
cool where it's warm (like it was here yesterday morning, balmy: ick!)

We already have 17m/28kph and five degrees hotter than
forecast. Pressure is dropping but no sign of rain to go
with that. Of course the wind gusts are way more, but
nowhere near the 70m/120kph we got last week. Even I
couldn't stand up in that, and believe me I have a firm
"hold" on gravity lol

At 15 1/2 hours of visible light per day you can feel the
solstice just around the corner. I came inside last night
after watering the poor parched garden and thought I would
ring a friend, only to be asked "What are you ringing at
10:40pm for?" rofl Doesn't seem that long since the
winter solstice - oh my, how time flies!

Cindy, I live in S. Central Oklahoma and it is awful here. (By our
standards anyway). My DH was not able to get home from work tonight and
had to get a motel (he has a 40 mile commute and the road was closed).
I hope our electricity stays on because I don't have another heat
source. I feel really isolated and uneasy. We don't have neighbors. I
don't like not being able to get out, and no one being able to get here
if I had an emergency. HOpe it clears off quickly. (I know this sounds
really silly to our northern friends, I'm such a winter weather sissy)

Default Oh, the Weather outside

Yes Polly, as Sandy said, it was truly bizarre here! Gotta love the
Gulf Coast. Was in shorts and t-shirt on Wednesday, woke up warm and
humid on Thursday morning. Got DD off to school, walked back in the
house to finish with DS and breakfast and watched all the trees
suddenly start bowing to the asphalt alters!

It was 73 degress when I got up and logged on my computer at 6
yesterday morning. By 9:30 a.m. it was 39 degrees with a wind chill
factor of 34. By the time poor Billy got off the bus (in shorts, but
with a jacket at mom's insistence) the wind chill had dropped it to 30
degrees here.

But the really "cool" thing...... DH ran out and bought the fire
screen for the fire place in our new home! We had bowls of steaming
hot beef stew in front of a fire while we watched Mary Poppins, cuddled
up of course!

I absolutely love it! It is so rare that we get a "wintry" Christmas
here that I am just thrilled to death! Now, if I could just get rid of
this stupid cold bug and cough......... well, that's the price we pay I
guess for being used to warm and humid as opposed to freezing and DRY!
LOL

Hugs and warmth to all! (well, accept maybe our Ozzies!)
Tina
