~OT~ - I need to possibly cast something
I need to make a cube like this:
http://snipurl.com/58ez It isn't solid, but rather a wire-form type cube. It would be 3/4" to 1" on a side. At first, I was thinking about doing it with 1/16" stainless rods, but I can't figure out how to join them. The finished box will need to withstand temps of about 1000 degrees Farenheit. Then I thought about trying to cast it. Bronze maybe? Or copper? Any thoughts? Thanks! Tink http://blackswampglassworks.com/latest.htm |

To cast this as a wire form, you'd have to use lost wax casting. If you
fabricate using solder joins, you'd have to use extra hard to stop it falling apart when you re-heat it. You may have to speak to a local metal smith on this one, Tink. -- Marisa (AU/NZ) http://www.galleryvittoria.com "I am NOT a floozy! I am a goddess..I can do what I like!", said Venus. Copper tends to be brittle when cast, which makes it not so good if you need to bend, tweak, polish or anything else, unless it's an object that is very solid. Brass would most likely be a better bet. Barbara Dream Master www.dreamweaverstudio.com If you want to make God laugh, tell him your future plans. Woody Allen |
