Default Denim quilt help??

I'm doing another denim quilt. I'm having a minor problem though. This
time I'm using flannel as the backing and it's a rag quilt. So it's a
square of denim, flannel, flannel, denim and then sew the seam. The
problem I have is that the top denim square seems to stretch so when I
get to the end of the seam it is over hanging the other squares
sometimes by 1/4 inch. I've tried the walking foot and the normal foot,
adjusted the tension and changed to a denim needle. I'm thinking this is
just an inherent problem because denim does stretch a little and because
of the thickness of the block. So I've decided to just square it up as I
go but was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or had encountered
the same problem.
Thanx
Joanna

I've done two flannel/denim rag quilts and had no trouble with either. I'd
say you need to make sure to sew your "X" across the block to help stabilize
the denim. If you've done that, then I'm as puzzled as you are!

Sew an X across the square then sew the seam? Sounds like more work.
Twice as much work as just cutting the little overlap off. Good idea
though that I never thought about.

If you are sewing a denim rag quilt backed with flannel (or any other fabric)
you need to sew an "X" to hold the two layers together and to stabilize the
block. If you get your blocks all set up, you can chain stitch them quite
easily - do one half of your "X" then go back and do the other half. It really
goes quickly!
