Default Queensland Floods

Flood levels around Brisbane are supposed to peak on Wednesday. Looks
as if this flood will be even more damaging than the one in 1974.
There are 9 deaths confirmed, with many more unaccounted for.
Previously it was said that an area the equivalent of France and
Germany combined was under water, but the flood has got much worse
since.

Luckily Brisbane is very hilly, and I live on one of them, though
there are many thousands of homes in lower-lying areas that will go
under. This is a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

Further north in Queensland, cities and towns are just beginning to
recover.

The Brisbane River is expected to peak this afternoon. About 40
thousand properties are expected to be flooded. Not such a large
percentage of Brisbane as a whole, but a great disaster for those
involved. 75% of the state has been declared a disaster area, and now
there are towns in northern New South Wales that are expecting flood
waters. Towns west of Brisbane have been devastated.

Yes that's right. Flood water moving towards the sea will meet a king
tide, so all that water in the Brisbane River will have nowhere to go
except into all the lower-lying areas of the city.
