Default OT News about my sister-cousin

My oldest sister phoned me last night to tell me that she just heard that my
sister-cousin Linda (who has terminal lung and stomach cancer) has been
taken to pallative care at the hospital now as she can no longer care for
herself. Apparently she has been in so much pain that she was taking more
medication than she was supposed to take, and it was making her groggy...
and she almost set fire to the apartment a couple of times. Her friend
called and had Linda taken to the hospital... Linda's son was at work and is
pretty upset about it.

Linda had hoped to at least last long enough to spend one more Christmas
with her son, now it isn't looking good. Please send out good vibes to the
universe, and prayers if you are so inclined. Although they may not be able
to extend Linda's life much longer, please pray that she may find peace from
all the pain, and that she will be surrounded by love of her family and
friends... and that her final journey will be peaceful.

Thank you!
*hugs*

Awww, Gemini, I am sorry to hear this. Even though she is in the best
place
for her right now, it must have felt like giving up. My prayers will
continue.

Thank you, Katherine! Not even sure if we can make it to see her, that's
the hardest part. I hate thinking of her being in the hospital thinking
nobody cares, even though she *knows* we love her and do care very much for
her. ( We are working on trying to come up with the money for gas to
go see her, but for right now, it doesn't look too promising.

Yep, isn't it horrible how money dominates our lives? Especially when
we
don't have any?

It really is horrible! What little money we have left over after paying
bills this month we *have to* buy some materials to cover our leaking flat
roof (both the smaller foyer one, and the larger back one) as the ceiling is
beginning to bow down in a couple of places. With winter just around the
corner I am very much afraid if we don't put plywood (man that stuff is more
expensive than I ever thought it was) over the really bad areas and then put
plastic tarps on the entire roof(s) to cover it all, that the weight of the
snow might very well cave in the roof on us. Just a few years ago there was
such a cave in at a mall in the nearby city and a lady was killed. Pretty
scarey! Since we aren't having any luck in getting the roof fixed properly,
we have to go the cheaper route and at least try to cover it with tarp (and
the plywood for support against the weight of the snow) until we can manage
to save enough money to get supplies to put a slightly sloped roof over both
areas. I have no idea what brilliant person decided to put a flat roof on a
*house*, but I really wish now that we had thought it all over carefully
before deciding to buy this place.

We are hoping that we might be able to come up with a few extra dollars
after all that above, even just enough for gas for the long trip to Toronto,
so we can make at least one trip to see Linda again. My oldest sister is
really concerned that they may not be able to come up with the money too,
and they only live about 40 miles from Toronto. She and her husband are on
pensions, and my sister has to have eye surgery (she's diabetic) within the
next couple of weeks and unfortunately the lazer part of the surgery isn't
covered by the health insurance (OHIP) so it will cost her $200. *shakes
head* If it isn't one thing, it's another. If we do manage to come up
with the gas money for the trip, we will likely go to my sister's (the other
side of Toronto) and have her husband drive us all to the hospital, as I've
only ever driven *in* Toronto that one time when we visited Linda back in
May and I still don't feel comfortable with all the off ramps from the big
freeway... way too confusing... but my brother-in-law used to be a truck
driver and is used to that.
