Hi Alia! You will probably get a better response by using different
phrasing... most people, especially those of us with tight budgets, have
a negative gut response to wheedling and guilt, even when we know and
like the person asking. Personally, I am doing what I can charity-wise
by contributing lampwork to causes I believe in. Until I can afford to
cover my family's health insurance by the end of the month, every month,
I won't have cash to spare.

hi all

my friend is doing an ms walk and i was wondering if any of you would
like to donate. ms is a debilitating disease that many feel keep
people in a kind of physical prison, because their personalities
remain in tact while their bodies do not respond as they want them to.
please consider even a small donation of 5 or 10 dollars thanks!!

Yes, this is true. I have many pretty beads just waiting to be donated,
and although I already have my "pet causes", I would be willing to
divert a few.

No problem at all. It's nothing personal at all. I only responded because
it sounded like you wanted to know why it didn't work and I thought it
deserved an answer. It's a good cause, and there's nothing wrong with
promoting it.

But you know, since this is a beading group, you would probably been more
successful asking for donations for an auction for MS.

OK. I'll lay it on the line. I don't like solicitations for money, in
general. In additions, my Depression makes it hard for me to keep
obligations in mind because it takes extra mental energy. (For me,
Depression is disabling; I can't work, but can't get disability so far).
For that reason I don't even participate in group BFNRs. I'm too broke

this

year to participate in my usual charities, and they would get

precedence.

And I would give in this group to an individual in need, before more
indirectly to a worthy cause that has a bunch of overhead.

None of this is personal. It's just my reality.

A lot of people here already give to charities. (We've had discussions about
this in the past.) I know Kevin and I have our charities earmarked already --
we give to the ones we've chosen, and they're dear to our hearts or they
woudn't get our money.

As much as I care about the cause (MS), it's not one of my top choices to give
to, even if I had leftover $$ to do so. I've already made my choices. And
I've spent a large chunk of my working life not only working fulltime for a
couple of my chosen charities, but I helped create/set one up (Greenpeace USA
in the 70s). I'm sorry I can't support the MS cause, but I'm pretty sure many
of us here do our best to help the world in as many ways as we can.
