Someone I know is trying to figure out what this is. She's been told that it's an
eye pin for jewelry making, but I'm not convinced. What do you think?

Jalynne, if it has a flexible eye (doesn't look like it?) then it is
indeed used for jewelry making/stringing.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that....it doesn't have a flexible eye. The
person who was asking about it said she tried to close one of them and it was more
like a metal needle, and it broke. It is not flexible at all and has a point at the
end opposite the eye.

It's an interesting needle, would like to hear what others guess.

Looks more like a bodkin for lacing as the point isn't very sharp looking
and the eye could be for threading cord through.

Because it looks like the pointy end is sharp,
I'd guess it's *part* of a pinback (like that found
on the back of a brooch). An eye pin wouldn't
be sharp. Just my guess..........

Looks like an eye pin to me, unless the end is sharp like a needle. Eye pins
are used with beads to form links in making jewelry. (They are trivial to
make from wire, so I've never bought any, but Fire Mountain Gems sells them
for around .03 each depending on the size and metal.)

I think quilting. Maybe it had one of those "flat flowers" glued on the round
end?

I know...they do look like eye pins, which I use regularly, but nothing like I've
ever seen before...and they're sharp and very short...also fine...like an applique
pin. I honestly don't think they're for jewelry making, but it was worth a shot.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I agree. I'll bet they had some specialty use, like millinary, or upholstery,
or something very specific...
