Hooray, hooray, hooray! That is the best news I've heard in a long while.

MJ,
Thanks for keeping everyone informed. I arrived home today,
greatly relieved. I was diagnosed with severe anemia and a urinary
tract infection. Who knew, I had NO symptoms! I knew I was weak,
but I never suspected I was 2 quarts low. So after treating all that,
they were ready to send me home. Huh? I came into ER with abdominal
pain! Oh yeah.
Well after some tests it was determined that I also had Gastritis,
which can be caused by the anemia. So no relapse, no surgery. Just
lots of antacid and watch what I eat. Whew, what a relief.
I'm so happy to be home and look forward to sleeping in my own bed
tonight! No beeping monitors, no one testing my blood pressure or
sugar in the middle of the night. It's a great hospital but lets face
it, they all suck.

Hugs to all of you!
Cheri

Cheri, m'dear---abdominal pain IS sometimes a symptom of urinary tract
infection. Anytime you have unexplained pain in back or abdominal area,
check your output....UTI's are a bother. Can you take cranberry extract?

Sarajane, maybe that's why they didn't want to address it in the
hospital. However, my pain was high, right under my breasts. That's
why I thought I was relapsing. Anyway, although still uncomfortable,
the pain is not nearly as severe as it was last week, so hopefully I am
on the mend.

Never heard of cranberry extract. I do drink cranberry juice.

Cheri, do see if you can find the extract , usually at healthfood stores.
There's liquid concentrate and also capsules, and the extract is easier to
get the higher dose without acidifying your tummy.....there's stuff in
cranberries that not only inhibits the bacterial growth that causes UTI's
but also actually peels the bacteria away from the bladder and UT walls and
flushes 'em out.

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to do any herbal or alternative meds
while I'm on chemo. So I guess I'll stick to cranberry juice for now.
I'm sure it sounds ridiculous to you, but I suffer through these side
effects and don't want anything to interfere with whatever
effectiveness the chemo will have, so I listen to my doctor. But
thanks for the advice!

Cheri, I missed the original post, but I'm very glad that you're back home
and that it wasn't more serious.

I do understand----you need the chemo to do as much damage as possible---to
the cancer cells only!!!! (As much as possible!!!) So no vitamin c or
anything that helps protect, for now. Though I'd sure hope you are eating
lots of garlic, or garlic in broth....as soon as possible! Ask your doc if
thats ok.
