Research for story
I'm writing a short story, and would be very grateful if somebody could
refer me to a website that has the names for the different parts of jewelry on it. For example, what do you call the part on the top of a ring if there's a stone mounted in it? If there's an engraving on it? That sort of thing. Thanks for your time! |

Be aware I'm not an expert, professional or even an amateur. My first thought was to tell you to Google. Then I tried it myself. Used the first three terms that came to mind, "anticlastic" "bezel" and "tiffany" (for the setting.) Didn't come up with much. Should try s.e.s other that Google also. These might help: http://www.ganoskin.com http://users.lmi.net/~drewid/jewelry_techniques.html Techniques Of Jewelry by Peter W. Rowe http://www.professionaljeweler.com/a.../aarcpmet.html http://www.silversmithing.com/support.htm Society of American Silversmiths - Support/a http://www.gemsociety.org/info/j14.htm FundaMetals 2, The Nomenclature of Jewelry/a http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/terms.shtml Chronocentric: Wris****ch Terminology/a http://www.cooking-italian-food.com/watch_glossary.htm Guide For Buying Watches & Jewelry/a Others here might well be able to do better. There are, as you know, books on the subject, but I know about being in locations far from adequate research materials. Thanks for your time! You're welcome. -- Don't like Google Beta? Here's what I got from Altavista Advanced Search. Had to book mark them again in Google though to get a usable link: http://www.bibianna.com/basic_glossa...llery_term.htm Basic Glossary http://www.yourdictionary.com/specialty.html Specialty Dictionaries As I said earlier, I'm no expert. -- Don't like Google Beta? I've been poring over those links, and I've found a few bits of information that I think will come in very handy. Thanks again for your help. |
