stack n slash quilt picture
A few weeks back I asked for sizing help to make stack n slash blocks. I
ended up using 20 inch blocks, cut down to 14.5 inch for the final block size. Twenty inches was way too large, as I only did six cuts, but I made use of the extra by putting it in as part of the backing. My niece had requested a camouflage theme (go figure!) quilt, so this is my interpretation: http://home.comcast.net/~conniecake/quilts/hide.JPG I titled the quilt "A Warm Place to Hide," and it is backed with novelty fabric Beetle Bailey print, with a camouflage background behind the Beetle characters. Trixie Very nice, Trixie! And I love the idea of Beetle Bailey on the back. When I read that this was "camouflage" themed quilt, to say the least,
I was curious. :-) Surprisingly, I find it to put off a feeling of serenity. Must be all the green coupled with other low-key tones. Cool quilt! I bet your niece is going to be thrilled. Thanks for sharing! Michelle in NV |

Trixie, Your quilt is lovely and looks very cozy. It is huge too! I
have not tried a stack and slash pattern yet. Is it something you can do without purchasing a pattern? How many fabrics does it require? TIA, Linda in Tx |

Yes, when she said "camouflage" I tried not to groan out loud, as it just
didn't sound like something I would ever want to do. Once I decided on stack n slash, and got going, it grew on me. Good thing I like green! Trixie "desert quilter" wrote in message oups.com... Linda:
I used this pattern: http://web.archive.org/web/200202020...six/ssgrph.htm I also got good advice from others on RCTQ for how large a block size to start with to get a specific ending size. You really don't have to be that particular, but I have a hard time "winging it" so feel better if I have a pattern. I think I used a dozen different fabrics, though there isn't any specific number you need. I started with 20" squares, and ended with 14.5 inch squares (this was my goal) after slashing six times. Twenty inches was excessive for only six slashes. To figure out fabric requirements, I knew I wanted to end up with 30 squares, so got enough fabrics total for 30 20inch squares. This is just a rough guide. With sashing, the quilt ended up being approximately 90 inches by 105 inches. Remember you can make the finished squares any size you want. Trixie That's a nice quilt. I went looking expecting camo prints on the front. I had thought of all the different colors of camo print you can buy and more than half expected to see the safety orange camo or the blue camo.
