Question about Plymouth Yukon Print Yarn
Hi Donna - I thought of you as I cast on for a hat this morning. I
have an "any yarn" hat pattern that is based on your knitting gauge and how big you want the hat to be. If you'd like it please email me and I'll email it back. I'm at ahendon at nyc dot rr dot com Alison |

Question about Plymouth Yukon Print Yarn
I wrote:
I used a 1/4" dowel and got a 6.0 mm set of needles, which is between size 10 (5.75 mm) and 10.5 (6.5 mm) on my Boye needle gauge, which can make a difference if I just can't get the gauge I need with 10 or 10.5. Sue wrote: Where are you getting these sizes from? 10s are 6mm and 13s are 9mm.... Sue According to my Boye needle gauge, which has holes in case you need to check the size of your needles, size 10 needles are 5.75 mm, 10.5 is 6.5 mm, 11 is 8 mm, and 13 is 9 mm. If she wants a size 12 needle, a 3/8" dowel rod would is very close to 9 mm or a size 13 comparing an American ruler to the metric holes in my gauge. Cutting it to whatever length, 10, 14, or custom, then sanding it down to 8.5 mm would give her an approximate size 12 needle. I used a 1/4" dowel to get 6 mm needles, which is in between my Boye 10 and 10.5's. I'm sure Boye sizes differ from other brands, but they make up most of what I have for HK needles, which is why I specified the measurements were taken from my Boye gauge. Hope it clears up any confusion I may have caused! Leah |

I know some of my older needles don't size the same as the newer ones. sue |

I know some of my older needles don't size the same as the newer ones. Yes, I've had my Boye needle gauge in my needle box for a # of years now. Funny, but when seeing if anyone made size 12 needles via Google, Wiseneedle's chart came up, and they still list Boyes the way my gauge does, with 10 being 5.75 and 10.5 being 6.5 mm (and my KNs fit those holes perfectly): http://www.wiseneedle.com/string-or-...7e96ddfa0.aspx Everyone else, Addi, Inox, Susan Bates, etc., all are listed as their #10s being 6.0 mm on the same sizing chart, with 10.5 varying. Weird! Leah |

Weird! I asked about an older needle gauge because some of my old needles are thicker than the holes for their size on my gauge (which I got last year). The 5s (they're like 40 years old) and either 13s or 15s (30 years old), or both of those are the ones that are just a scosh bigger. sue |
