I have changed 100's of sponge bars over the years and it bothered my
about the cost for 50 pence worth of sponge. I spent a lot of time
looking and never found a suitable alternative to the real thing.

I would be curious about Neoprene. It comes with a kind of skin and is a
much firmer foam. It is often used for wetsuits and sleeping bag pads.
Anyone try this?
