Default Gordi (sp.) knot

Hi there,

have just watched a programme on TV (Brainiac:History abuse) that described
a knot that was almost impossible to undo. Didn't catch all the segment but
basically they tried to undo it with 2 JCBs, without luck. Anyone know what
I'm talking about? Have a feeling the spelling is wrong as Google didn't
help.

TIA

Andy

Andy,

It was probably the Gordian Knot.

Here are a couple of sites that speculate about what the Gordian knot
was and how it could be untied:
1. http://www.maa.org/devlin/devlin_9_01.html
2. http://www.weeklyscientist.com/ws/articles/knot.htm .

basically they tried to undo it with 2 JCBs, without luck.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the TV progam. By the way, may I ask, what
is a JCB?

Brian.

Hi MCC,

Well! You are not there. I press post and you are there. Eight time
zones and we press within the groups update time! (or at least close).
Neat coincidence.

Post and the world posts with you! :-)

Cheers - Brian.

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't get back to you on the JCB question but as you
can see MCC answered it admirably.
