Wow! How in heck did you discover these? They are just amazing and have
been added to my "to do" list as well as my favourites file. Thank you so
much!

Penrose tiling is a fabulous example of what can be done with just
diamonds. If anyone would like to see some of the fantastic patterns
that can be made (I am doing two at the moment, and have done a few more
small ones!), do a search via Google on 'Penrose Tiling', then look for
a site by someone called Joss Leys. (There are others, but these are
the ones I specially love). You will be as fascinated as I was to see
them. I use English Paper Piecing to make up the patterns. Works
beautifully.

It's a screensaver in a Linux windows emulator, I think it's GNOME,
but the screensaver is called Penrose. I can describe it (at least try
to) but basically there ae two different diamonds, a small one and a

large
one. The large one make the star and small one fills the spaces around
to join up to the adjoining stars.

UH-OH! Now you've really gone and done it. lol I am eagerly awaiting time to
start one of these! For anyone out there that is equally interested, there
are many different free software programs available that allow you to design
what you want and play with the tiles, to create your own "masterpiece".

Absolutely! My maths is pathetic so to see something like this which is so
simple, yet so effective, is just wunnerful. Can't wait to see your quilts
either in person in an exhibition or on a website!

Well, Sharon
I realised how much mathematics occurs in quilting, and decided to
investigate further and look at patterns which could be derived starting
from a mathematical base. I think I looked up something fairly vague at
first on Google and then checked out the sites given.
If you like what you saw, I wonder if you saw the hyperbolic tiling
ones? Similar to the Penrose ones, but with curves. Fabulous.
My math quilts will be a series of 14, about 24" square. I'm hoping
they will be included in a touring exhibition next year. I haven't had
them officially accepted yet! I will be sending off the photos of the
first four, for approval, within the next couple of weeks. There will
be patterns like Penrose, symmetry, spirals, lute of Pythagoras - try
looking that one up!! they are amazing, and we have just been talking
about five pointed stars. These are based on regular pentagons.
I hope you really did want to know! - otherwise this will all be a bit
boring. Sorry g

I didn't get one of them yet. I just dejunked my puter and apparently, I
took out a little too much of the necessary junk. lol I'm going to be very
picky about what goes back into my pc from now on, instead of getting every
program that comes along that I think I need. lol
