Mat (Matte) cutting machines Logan vs. Alto's

Hello All:

I am considering buying either the Logan 750 or the Alto's 4505 mat cutting
systems. Buying by mail order, the Logan is ~$210 and the Alto's is ~$130
including shipping. The price difference is not that big to me so I will buy
the better of the two. I have read that some people actually prefer the less
expensive Alto's system. So, could any of you compare/contrast these two
machines?

I can't offer a comparison but I can "spend" my
two cents worth on this advice for anyone reading
this thread.

The secret to success with any mat cutter is the
sharpness of the blade used, and the ability to
replace that blade easily when it dulls - which
doesn't take all that long if you're cutting many
mats. I've found that the X-acto brand is the
most readily available blade, along with some
knock-off "utility" blade brands. So, my recommendation
is buy the mat cutter that offers readily
available replacement blades - or blades that
you can sharpen yourself (which is a
skill in its own right).
