Default Garnet chips/nuggets

I purchased a 36" strand of what appears to be garnet chips/nuggests at a
garage sale. Is there some way to determine whether they are garnets or not?
Thanks...

Get a torch kinda near 'em... but go really really slowly.
If you go at them slowly enough and they melt, they're glass.
If they pop from the heat and break in pieces, prolly garnet.
Garnet can stand heat pretty well tho, and glass can pop & shatter if it's
hit w/ the heat too fast, so this test can be tricky to do.

Or, take it into a jewelery place and ask them.
They may scoff and get all 'tude-y with you at the sight of chip beads, tho.

If yer not into torches or flaming snobbery, send me one and I'll tell ya
what it is
(I could tell without even torching it, so I'll send it right back unharmed)
