Ruthie had such nice comments for Linda, then she said:

Remember that you'll never be as good as Diane. As you progress, so
does she, so she'll stay ahead of you/us.

I wish people would stop doing that.

These were PROFESSIONALS who did this ten hours a
day, 7 days a week. You get better at anything you do when you spend
that amount of time. So, if you only have 15 minutes every few days,
you grow more slowly. But grow you will.

That is exactly what I meant by what I said. I'm sorry I phrased it
badly. I totally agree with:

Don't try to reach perfection. That's an impossible goal. Try to reach
for a better *tomorrow*. That's attainable.

A shorter version of that is my daily motto:
"Strive for progress, not perfection."

And then there's my brother's sayng:
"There is no such thing as perfection, merely an reasonable level of
acceptability."

I want to thank you all for your kind words. You especially, Dianne.

I feel much better today. I know part of it is stress at my job and
in my life and the lovely weather we've been having. (teens all week;
threat of another ice storm today!).

I've decided to put the hardanger aside for now and work on other
projects. My son has wanted a dragon for over a year, so I started
one from Stoney Creek for him this weekend. Not too hard, and I know
it will make him happy. Plus it will look nice with the sorcerer I
did earlier.

I also have a lovely crewel tulip project that I'm going to pull out
and start as a reminder that spring is coming!

Thank you all again.

You're welcome. I know how this goes. I'm staring at a current
project. Oh, how I want to do it, but oh how it's hard. I'm doing a
little bit each day.

You're doing the right thing: do what is easiest when other stressors
are in the way. Along about the middle of February, that spring tulip
will whet your appetite, I'm sure. If not . . . save it for next
winter. There are NO have to's in this art form.

Long story I won't bore anyone with, but I had someone special on the
West Coast encourage me this past year, several times, as I endeavored
to relearn something I had neglected. I was so angry at not "getting
anywhere". But I was also so ill that it wasn't easy for me to put in
any time. She just said, "If all you have is 15 minutes a day, then
that's all you have and you'll grow/respond accordingly. Don't feel
guilty because that's all you can do."

So, I passed that along to you (and anyone else listening). It's good
advice. Each of us must do what we can do . . . no more . . . no less.

Dianne

Oh, you meant the *temperature*! In my case, I thought of is as "teens
all week" -- cancelled school, LOL! Though DD knows by now the household
rule: "If school is cancelled because the weather is bad and road
conditions are dangerous, then trips to the mall are likewise cancelled!"

I wish--even when they cancel schools around here, my clinical instructor
still has clinical :P
