Obviously, you have never been to Lizard Land for any length of time
especially in the summer. Don't forget, back in the late 80's, the high hit
122 and they had to shut the airport down! Average rainfall is somewhere
around 7", I have seen it hit 100 in February and we won't even begin to
discuss the monsoon season when temps are often 110+, the humidity creeps near
60% and the night time LOW is in the mid to high 80's! Trust me, there's NO
place like Lizard Land! CiaoMeow ^;;^

I should have been more specific and said I was referring just to the USA
:-). You could be right though -- I wouldn't know, never having been to Oz.
DH has and he says the area of the outback where he spent a month might
possibly be *worse* than Lizard Land -- LOL! Not sure about the monsoon part
tho' as he was there during their winter. Does the outback get monsoon type
weather in the summer, I wonder? CiaoMeow ^;;^

I'm sorry, but this is just making me laugh out loud...the idea that
humidity "creeps near 60%". Here in Baltimore, we'll go for *days* with
daytime highs in the low 100s, nighttime lows around 80, and *99 per
cent* humidity. That's the *pits.* That's why God created 7-11 Slurpees
and snowball booths.

The difference is that in Lizard Land before the monsoon starts, the temps
will be 110+ and the humidity is, oh maybe 15% or something ridiculous like
that. It really, truly is a dry heat and it will suck the moisture right out
of you in nothing flat. Go from being so dry one day to 110+ and near 60%
humidity and it's a real shock.
You guys who live where it is routinely humid have no idea what 15% humidity
is like. For you, 60% humidity is a piece of cake :-) -- I know cuz I live in
Magnoliaville now! Down here, it's not considered humid until it gets into the
90's and the humidity is above 80%!
As for the seasons -- well, Lizard Land has three seasons. They are : hot,
Hotter & OH MY GOD!!!! CiaoMeow ^;;^

You just described Austin, TX. However, we get 31 inches a year which
means we
have high humidity often. People think it's dry in the west, but they are
wrong. It is quite humid here in summer.

Summer is our season for indoors. It's our harsh season. However, most
people
who've lived here a decade or more come to acclimatize to the heat and
grow to
love it. It's soft on the joints.

Mmmmhmmmmm.

Here in the California desert, you learn real fast to carry a water bottle with
you in summer (i.e., April to November).

In more humid areas, you're aware that you're sweating. Here, it evaporates on
contact, and if you don't consciously drink -- a lot -- you dehydrate without
even knowing why. All sorts of nasty symptoms that go along with that.

The women's magazines warn you that during winter, when you're in heated
buildings, you need to moisturize your face. Around here, it's the other way
around. You don't need much moisturizer during rainy season, but you'd better
apply it by the gallon in summer.

Yup, monsoons in the wet season. There is a town in the north west of
Western Australia called Marble Bar which (I think) holds the record for the
most number of consecutive days over 40C - that's over 100F but not sure
exactly what. When the wet season hits, towns and stations (that's farms or
ranches to you) are often cut off by flooding for days or weeks at a time.
Still very hot though.
