Default Waaay OT but fun news!

I'm a Grandma!

Addison Carlee Erickson was born yesterday, May 25, at 8:55 am. DIL
had quite a bit of trouble during her pregnancy, so they had decided
to induce her a bit early. Good thing....her due date was June 8 but
Addison, two weeks early, weighed in at a hefty 9 lbs, 2 oz. and was
22" long!!! She has lots of dark hair about 1 1/2" long, which she'll
probably lose to become blonde like her mommy & daddy (DD did the same
thing). And chipmunk cheeks...can't forget those chipmunk cheeks!

DIL ended up having a C-section after 12 hrs of unproductive labor and
then, somewhere along the line, they realized the baby was face up, so
they decided on the C-section. They're both fine.

Addison had quite the little conehead when she first came out. lol! I
was amazed at how rapidly it went back to normal, though.

Pictures are in my webshots album if you're interested....
http://community.webshots.com/user/ndjoan

This next part will get a bit long so you might want to stop reading
now if you don't want to be bored!

The other part of the story is that my dad (88) is also in the
hospital. He had his knee replaced 2 weeks ago, got sent home a week
later before he was really ready (Mom couldn't help him up when he
fell), went downhill and ended up back in the hospital last Thurs. He
has pneumonia, (which is getting better) and now they discovered a
problem with his epiglottis (the valve that covers the trachea when
swallowing). The upside is that he's walking much better now and
they'll put him in the rehab hospital or elder care until he builds up
his upper body strength and he's *really* ready to go home, which
should have happened the first time around.

So, I've been getting lots of exercise because he is at the far west
end of the hospital and Dani & Addison are at the far east end!

It's always something......

Thanks, I definitely will!

Glad your dad is on the mend.

Thanks for that, too. He's looking much better now.

So Joan, are you Grandma or Nana, or what? I know this spoiled beauty is
going to adore you and she needs to call you something.

I hope your dad's recovery is swift and uneventful.

I was talking about this with Sheena last week. I think I want to be
called Grandmama. I don't want to be Grandma Erickson (that's my
Ddeparted MIL), I heartily dislike Nana, and my mom is Grandma (or
Great Grandma). I'm guessing Dani's mom will be Grandma, but I
haven't asked her.

Thanks! It seems he's getting stronger every day. When the nurses
ask him if he wants to stop or continue, he usually says continue!
Yaay!

Ask first!~ You never know. My grandmother insisted on being "Mama",
because she thought she was too young to be a grandma, and one of her
nieces, instructed to call her GM (my ggm)"grandmama" couldn't get her
tongue around it, so shortened it to "mama". Result - when my bros and
I got to be teenagers we just addressed gm as "Nellie" (her name).

I am grandma to my dd's kids, but in the neighborhood the little kids
couldn't pronounce my name properly, so I became "Grandma Olwyn". When
ds had kids, his mil, who lives close by, became "grandma", so I just
stuck with Grandma Olwyn.

Ah, the fun things you get to worry about now! My grandmothers were "Nanny"
or "Nana Lily" for my DM's mom, and always "Nana Evelyn" for my DF's mom.
My father's mom was more imposing and formal, but we were much more likely
to joke/tease quite a bit with "Nanny" - and certainly we had other
nicknames as time went on - she was very modern, little, and progressive
thinking - who in her way taught us a lot. Though she was also kind of
crazy. The other one, much more play by the rules, and Nana was about 5'10"
- got matched with my DGF, "Popop" or "Papa Max" 'cause he was over 6' -
while Lily (Lillian) was only about 5'1", and "Papa Chick" (her husband) was
5'8" - hence my being only about 5'6" (mom was 5'3.5" as opposed to my 6'5"
dad, 6'4" DB, 6'8" nephew, and 5'11" niece - the other niece is just a bit
shorter than me).

One of my mother's old friends went in for pretentiousness, and decided that
her grandchildren were to call her "mamere' " - a bit out there for a
woman raised in Brooklyn, and then in DC for the last 45 years.

Hey - are you open to baby sweaters (as in I missed finishing them in time
for the original target, but.....)

I hope your dad's recovery is swift and uneventful.

Glad to hear that. So, all things good for you at this point! Yeah!!

My sister thought Grandmama was a bit ostentatious. I guess this will
be up in the air for a year or two until she actually starts talking!
lol

Thanks for the offer! If they're newborn, probably not. She has *so*
much stuff for that baby right now, she'll never get to wear half of
it before she's outgrown them! If they're for older ages, email.
me...

Woooohoooo!!! What a gorgeous little girl, Joan! Hasn't she got the
sweetest little baby mouth? Please give Addison a big kiss from Auntie
Trisha and tell her 'Welcome!' from me. ;-D

Yes, it's just *tiny*! She's already starting to lose that lovely,
soft, soft head of hair.

Done!
