Hi folks, I see this Precious Metal Clay and am curious, how much of the Clay is actually Metal? Powdered Gold or Silver mixed into Polymer Clay seems to me the way they make it eh? Nope. PMC is extremely tiny bits of pure metal in a water and binder combination. No polymer involved. (Well, unless the binder is come kind of polymer, but it's sure not polymer CLAY!) The weight of the PMC in the package is the weight of pure metal you get -- the water and binder are not counted as part of the weight. You can get a lot of information at the PMC Guild website. (I think it's www.pmcguild.org) When fired (at MUCH higher temperatures than polymer clay) the material "sinters" rather than becoming molten. The binder and water evaporate or burn away, and the metal particles fuse together while retaining their shape. Way cool, I say! Sherry Bailey |
