Default batting for baby quilt

I am 2 elephants away from finishing the appliqué on my Noah's Ark quilt. I
think I will quilt around each animal (about a quarter inch, do the planks
on the ark, and then some waves around the ark area, then just cross hatch
the rest. But I am so new at this, I am not sure what batting to select. I
have some Hobbs heirloom (cotton), but have heard that a poly blend holds up
better in baby quilts. All the fabrics are brushed cottons or flannels, so
the quilt has nice texture (what happens when a child development specialist
makes a quilt for the first grandchild). I don't want to ruin it now.

Suggestions???

OT: Rachael is stable. We are awaiting test results, but there have been
no more heart failure incidents. You know, you are a STRONG group and I am
sure the turn for the best rests on the prayers and warm thoughts of all you
wonderful people. I wish I could better express my gratitude.

Thank you,

Paulette in WV

lashley in the box and go to the Quilts folder. I am also putting up
yesterday's pics of Michael

I have used Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 in baby quilts. I don't see why it
shouldn't wear okay.

Never heard of Hobbs not holding up. It will hold up at least as long as the
top and backing IMO, and cotton is lots more comfortable to be around, also
IMO. And since you already have it...
2 elephants away -reminds me of the famous story/poem about the blind men
describing elephants.
So glad for the good news about Rachel!

the batting you have will be fine. I never use poly for anything, and I
never heard back from any parents that their baby's quilt was not
holding up - I think it is a lot more likely the stitches will come lose
or the fabric will wear out.

Great news about your daughter. I hope she does not need the surgery, at
least now when all she must want is to be with the baby!!!

I've used Hobbs 80/20 in several baby quilts that have been washed
innumerable times, and they're still going strong.

Paulette I do not like poly for quilts I use cotton or wool like to quilt
with wool the best. poly may not hold up to a lot of washing. my father did
a baby quilt for each of my kids and he used poly and well my daughters is
starting to come apart. she is almost 13 years old and I had to wash it last
week and I found that even thought the fabric was starting to show its wear
the batting was so thin that you do not know that it is there. my lap throw
that was made the same year that she was born is holding up just fine and it
has cotton in it.

Hope that this will help you make up your mind on quilt battings.

Well, how wonderful. I was looking about here hoping for an update on your
daughter. As to a batting for our sweet new baby's quilt - you might just
think about plain old well washed flannel. Much more flexible for bundling
up a wee one. I assume you will be making many more quilts for this little
darling. A new one every week might be a bit carried away but you can try to
control yourself. We continue to thank God that they are doing well and we
are holding you close in our thoughts and prayers. Polly
